Amazon lays off around 500 employees in India : Reports

It is recently reported that Amazon India has laid off at least 500 employees across different businesses and functions including Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources, and support functions.

In January this year, CEO Andy Jassy announced to cut 18000 jobs as a part of cost-cutting measure worldwide. Followed in March, the company further announced that it will be laying off 9,000 jobs across departments.

The company hasn’t officially revealed how many Indian employees have been impacted by the layoffs but as per a new report, there are hundreds of people.

The layoffs were attributed to a number of factors, including the slowdown in growth of AWS revenues and the macroeconomic conditions

The CEO also announced to offer severance package to each and every laid off employee that include a “separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support.”

Big Tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Meta, Twitter, and more have all been announcing layoffs and severance pay package and have stated tough macroeconomic conditions as the reason behind thousands of job cuts.
